The third largest airport in the UK, Manchester Airport capitalises on the demand for air travel in the north.

With three terminals and two runways, Manchester Airport has over 18 million passengers travelling through the airport every year and a choice of almost 200 destinations to fly to.

Though it wasn’t until the 1960’s that Manchester Airport went through it’s most striking of transformations. Two passenger piers were constructed as well as an impressive terminal building with added air traffic control facilities. This development represented the beginning of a promising 20 year period for Manchester Airport as demand for travelling abroad soared. It reached a pitch so high that a further third pier had to be built as well as a new departure hall and the runway being extended.

It wasn’t until 1980 that Manchester Airport was initiated as an International Gateway, now able to handle direct long-haul international flights. With this recognition the airport devised an investment programme that would not only improve passenger traffic but develop their cargo handling facilities.

With the development of a second runway, a second international passenger terminal, and better transport links by rail and road, Manchester Airport has enhanced its potential and deserves its growing success.
